Have you ever gone through something so hard so unbearable that you wished desperately that someone….anyone would “suffer with you”…..? Have compassion for you?
Maybe at some point in your life you've had a close family member die, or been hiding in your room while your parents were screaming at each other.
Maybe you broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend and you thought they were the one you would be with forever. Maybe a parent changed jobs and you had to move to a place where you knew no one.
Maybe you’ve been sick, hurt, stuck at home and all your friends are Tweeting about all the fun they are having without you. Or maybe you've just tried to numb the pain with meds or drugs.
We've all felt alone at some point in our life.
We've all longed for a little compassion.
Each week, we as your YL leaders have the privilege to tell you about a person who is real and loves us with the compassion that we so desire.
Last week Gretchen shared with us the fact that God sent His Son, Jesus to this earth. God in a bod. God with skin on.
The root word of compassion is the word 'passion' which means 'to suffer.' In Latin the word suffix 'com' means 'with.' So compassion literally means 'to suffer with.' Jesus literally suffers with us.
Tonight Wendy shared a historical account found in Luke 5:12-15 about a man with leprosy that Jesus showed compassion upon. Jesus suffered with him!
The best news ever is this:
The God who made you wants to know you.
He wants to touch your life.
He wants to show compassion to you.
He wants to do for you what he did for the leper.
