Tonight Gretchen shared with us some terrible news.
She talked about SIN. What is Sin? Sin is ignoring God’s will for our lives. It’s us completely turning our backs on Him. In our Sin we choose our own way. Sin separates us from God. We were made to be in relationship with him, but sin severed that relationship.
Do you ever really think about our world, what is happening around you? There is darkness, there is sorrow, there is let down.
What about what is going on inside of you? There is pain, there is emptiness, there is heartache.
We feel all of this deeply. Something went wrong in the world.
I shared this video that took us through creation and the fall of humankind. Creation fell apart when Adam & Eve disobeyed God. Read Genesis 3.
When the very first human sinned, evil entered the human heart. We were born into this mess of sin and nothing has changed. We still choose our own way rather than God's way. Isaiah 64:6
We are ALL infected with this disease of sin. Romans 3:23 says “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Even when we pray, go to church, call ourselves Christians, STILL we can’t escape being covered in sin by polishing ourselves with good deeds. We can’t clean up ourselves.
We want answers. We want an explanation. We want to know why people hurt us, why tragedies happen, and why we don’t feel comfortable in our own skin. Why does this world leave us empty?
Sin explains why. It is inside of us. We see it around us every single day. This isn’t how it ought to be. Apart from God we are jealous, envious, selfish, drunken, angry, lustful, conflicting, lazy, and prideful.
We have a heart problem. We're stuck in a miserable place. Come back next week to hear how Jesus literally rescues us from sin. It's the best news ever!
